Best Beaches in Positano

We are creatures of habit, rarely going somewhere new once we have figured something out and decided that we like it. Life in Rome can sometimes be exhausting and chaotic. Going somewhere where we know what to expect is a relaxing counterpoint.

But. Going out of your comfort zone is really what life is about right? So when Elizabeth and Domenico joined us for a week in Positano last month we promised to try a few new things.

Going to Fornillo beach in Positano is not a new thing, but trying out a new beach club (known in Italian as a stabilimento) is. This time we ventured through the tunnel instead of down the steps and found ourselves warmly welcomed by Gabriella one of the many friendly family members who own and run the Hotel Pupetto and beach club.

We opted for a simple beach lunch, though there is a more formal restaurant on an upstairs terrace if you are hungry for a more substantial lunch.

Beach food options in Fornillo are all pretty similar. We ordered our favorites like caponata, caprese salad, marinated anchovies and you know it's not lunch on the Amalfi Coast without the ubiquitous jug of wine and peaches.

It felt good to change our stripes (of beach umbrella) and try something (kind of) new.

  1. Lovely Gillian! So did you have lunch in the "nice-looking" restaurant, or down on the beach? We will have to try it next year, although it may mean one less day at Adolfo! And especially handy since I found the shortcut through the woods down to Fornillo!
