Yes Virginia you can have a good meal in Sultanahmet. We found two.

Lunch in Asia {Çiya + Istanbul}

Sunday morning in Ortakoy, Istanbul

With only 48 hours to spend in Istanbul, you really don't want to have a bad meal.  While doing my research before we left, one place that kept turning up on lists with names like "Best Meals of 2012", My Last Meal on Earth Would Be", plus recommendations from trusted friends was Çiya.

Sunday Morning Breakfast {Pando + Istanbul}

Breakfast in Istanbul

Breakfast in Istanbul

We recently took a very brief trip to Istanbul. We have been scheming to get back to this exciting city on the Bosphorus straight since we had a 24 hour layover a few years ago on our way to Cape Town.

This time we had just a little more than 48 hours, but we managed to squeeze in visits to two continents, a little bit of shopping, lots of good meals and kilometers of walking.

Over the next few posts I will share where we went and what we ate and what we saw along the way.

First up  - Breakfast at Pando Kaymak.

Dreaming of Napoli {Gillian's Links}

View of the Bay of Naples

Vesuvio, Beautiful, haunting and emotional. Kind of like Naples.

I have been binge watching the Sopranos for the past few weeks. (and FYI, it is just as fabulous 14 years later and the second time around, sometimes it is even better knowing what is coming and watching how they lead up to to it.)

There is a song that is played in a number of episodes that I can not get out of my head.  This live version of a tour that came from the amazing film, Passione, is kind of amazing.

Look on the Bright Side

On my blog and in my App I choose to focus on the bright side of  life in Rome as an expat. That said, expatriate life is not always a prosecco in palazzos and weekday lunch outings. Living away from home, family, friends can be lonely and isolating no matter how glamorous the current post is.

Coffee in Rome {Pasticceria Dagnino + Vine}

Coffee in Rome

There is a new kid in Social Media Town.

Vine is a new service that allows you to create tiny, six second videos that play on loop that you share in a feed like Twitter and Instagram and Facebook.  Oh great, I thought.  Another thing I have to keep up with.  Of course what I really think is, it is really really fun. Now instead of thinking about what I am doing in 140 characters or as a filterable image, I think how would this look as a 6 second video.

January Sunshine {Settembrini + Rome}

It has been spectacularly sunny in Rome the past few days. It is hard to imagine a year ago we had a record snowstorm.

Home Comforts {Gillian's List of Links}

Here are a few things I am loving right now that make my Roman apartment home.
