Summer in Rome - Part 2 {Giuda Ballerino on the Tevere }

Last week I talked about some of things that I love in Rome during summer. Here is another one.

All along the banks of the Tevere river and on the Isola Tiberina, market stalls, cocktail bars and restaurant pop-ups are set up from June until the beginning of September.

I had kind of forgotten about it this year.  The weather has been so cool and we have all been busy with visitors and open mike nights.  Thankfully, my always in the know pal reminded me the other day.  Of course she had the scoop that the very fancy, Michelin starred, Giuda Ballerino had set up camp for summer on the Isola Tiberna.

There is a stylish sit-down restaurant, with tables next to the rushing Tevere river and a take-out stand right next door. At the take-out spot we ordered €5 Black Angus hamburgers, and a plate of Canneloni with amatriciana di tonno.  This is some of the best value fast food in town.  I even spotted a smoked salmon bagel sandwich.  The restaurant has gourmet hamburgers and pasta dishes and an excellent wine selection.  I will definitely be back to try it.

We perched on bar stools and watched the sun set with cold Sardinian beers before heading off to see the fireworks show at Castel Sant'Angelo.
