The Mercatino

First things first! There is a bar at the Porta Maggiore branch.   For a fortifying shot of coffee before the hunt.
I come from a long line of shoppers. Shoppers with a particular skill at finding a bargain. True thrift store professionals. I have many a childhood memory of hiding the in the racks of furs and evening gowns in the back room at LoehmansA few of my friends have been telling me how fabulous the "Mercatino" here in Rome is.

I had been ignoring them. This was a BIG mistake.

We lived in our first apartment in Rome for four years never getting around to installing a single light fixture.  In our new apartment (we have been living here a year this week) we have done a little better, but there are a few bare lightbulbs still hanging from wires.

need a doll making device?
Recently, I finally went to see what all the fuss was about. The things I have been missing! Fay jackets and Etro skirts, books and dvd's for just a few euros, Deruta pottery, entire walls of wardrobes and shelves....

And light fixtures. Chandeliers, sconces, table lamps....oh my!

I may just get rid of those bare light bulbs yet.

I still can't decide

The branch not far from the vatican has a good selection of books in english
