Up Close {Museums in Rome}
My friend Veronica is one of the smartest people I know. We call her Wikipedia. It is a such a delight to walk around Rome or go to a museum with her because she knows everything. Really. Every single thing there is to know about art and history in Rome. Unfortunately there is much less walking around and museum going these days because Veronica has gone and moved to Singapore to be the head of the Italian Cultural Institute. Lucky for me she has been back in Rome for the holidays and filled with suggestions of exhibits to see that I would never get around to seeing left to my own devices.
The hyper-realistic work of Luciano Ventrone is being shown in the recently (beautifully) restored Casino dei Principe in the Villa Torlonia. Like a modern Caravaggio these paintings are breathtaking in their detail, enthralling all of us, even the four teenagers. It is only here in Rome for a few more days, so don't delay.
A ticket to the Luciano Ventrone exhibit includes entry to the Guiseppe Valadier designed Casino Nobile, which we decided has a Kardashian-like flair, and is well worth a wander.
Have lunch or a snack at Limonaia.

ReplyDeleteThis exhibit looks fascinating and I love Villa Torlonia! Will see if I can find time to check it out the next couple of days. Singapore is very lucky to have Veronica.
