Gelato in Rome - The Classics {Palazzo del Freddo Giovanni Fassi}

gelato in Rome

There is some really delicious, carefully crafted, meticulously sourced gelato in Rome.

But sometimes it's more about the place. And the experience, than anything else.

Palazzo del Freddo Giovanni Fassi (or Fassi for short)is just this kind of place.

It may not be the very best gelato you will have in Rome, but it is an authentic Roman experience.

Don't be put off by the crowds and seeming chaos. Fassi is aircraft hanger sized and the team scoops with efficiency. There are tables and benches and a small outside courtyard to sit.

New York New York - Roman Style

I recently saw a friend who has not succumbed to the pleasures of Rome. She misses soft serve cones and friendly customer service.

It is no secret that I have fallen hard for Rome's chaotic, seductive charm, but that doesn't mean I don't still miss things from the other places I have called home.

Life is a Bowl of Cherries

This weekend was Mother's Day. As creatures of habit we usually celebrate at our regular table at our regular beach but this year the teenager had to work so we stayed in town for the day.

I have an oft stated rule about eating seafood only with the sea in my view

La Gensola in Trastevere is renowned for the freshness of it's fish.

I have been wanting to go to Osteria Gensola for years. It never. ever. works out.

A Sweet Break

This is not a post about cupcakes.

Every year, and only in the months of May and June, you can visit the Commune de Roma's rose garden. {Roseto Comunale}

On elegant Aventine hill, it is a perfect place to stop for a break and literally smell the roses.
