Gillian’s Lists
"The list is the origin of culture,” Umberto Eco. My favorite things to do and eat in Rome, European city breaks, and the best information on Italian beaches and islands.

Where to Eat on Cape Cod
It's all about the Lobster. And Oysters. And Clams.
And for a homesick expat a fish taco or two. Here is my list of where we ate on a recent, much too short, trip to Cape Cod.

Cocktails in Rome {The Corner Townhouse}
When you go to have a drink at the newly opened Aventino hotspot The Corner Townhouse make sure you are really specific about where you are meeting your cocktail pals.

Pizza in Rome {Emma Pizzeria con Cucina}
In the quiet days of August we stayed in Rome and enjoyed the somewhat calmer pace of this chaotic city. Mark's days at the office were shorter, Noah's friends had almost all left to start their first year at university; it is a time of year when the evening light lingers and a long walk to dinner through the center is a relaxing activity. We took advantage of the somnolence and tried a few of the new places that had opened recently in town. One of these newcomers is Emma Pizzeria.

A Not So Empty Nest {Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary}
The irony is not lost on me as I am heading to Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to meet the research team and volunteers to check on turtle nests. My own proverbial nest is just days empty and here I am looking for baby turtles tucked safely into sandy nests on the Cape Cod sea shore at the Wellfleet Bay Nature Sanctuary.

Where to Stay on Cape Cod {Woods Hold Passage}
Sometimes you want an adventurous vacation. Somewhere new and exciting and bold. Sometime you want your comfortable standbys. To end this exciting summer we were looking for something in-between the two.
Cape Cod, about two hours from Boston, was a new destination for us and Woods Hole Passage is a comfortable as your best friends house where she left you the key and a full refrigerator. In a word Perfect.

Breakfast in Boston {Trident Booksellers & Cafe + Flour Bakery + South End Buttery}
There have been a lot of early mornings on this trip. First it was jet lag that had us up with the birds and then as the time marched on it was long lists of things to do and if I am being perfectly honest a wee case of nerves on all of our parts.
Even though there is a just released report that maybe breakfast isn't all we have been led to believe popular wisdom holds that it is the most important meal of the day.
Boston is a breakfast town. Even on a holiday weekend popular spots were open and busy. Two places we tried and loved were Trident Booksellers Cafe, Flour Bakery and South End Buttery.
