Cocktails in Rome

When  you go to have a drink at the newly opened Aventino hotspot The Corner Townhouse make sure you are really specific about where you are meeting your cocktail pals.

You have two choices, well kind of three choices if you count the two seating areas downstairs. On a recent visit we each went to a different spot in this sprawling space.  There is the casual Bistreet with both inside and outside seating. Inside is a hipster eclectic mix of taxidermied ducks and design book titles complete with an indie soundtrack and mustached wait staff. Outside are well shaded simple wooden tables and chairs. The upstairs Lounge Garden is the big draw with it's large open terrace that offers lots of green, cool evening breezes and cozy seating areas.

The cocktail menu has some interesting and creative things to chose from. I picked a zingy ginger, gin and lemon concoction. There were cute polka dotted ramekins filled with salty corn nuts and later when we moved upstairs there were tea trays of tiny pizzas, and sausage and spinach filled pastries.

When we visited in late July, The Corner Townhouse was just quietly open. I am looking forward to a few indian summer cocktails on the green and breezy rooftop and a cozy dinner in the chic dining room when I feel the first nip of fall.
